The Taco Bell at 116 E Foothill in Glendora reopened last week. The previous 1,288 square foot store, built in 1966, was torn down to make way for a brand new 2,025 square foot store, situated slightly east of the previous building footprint to facilitate easier access to the drive through. According to public records, the property sold in December 2012 for $1,760,000, or $869 per square foot. The new configuration includes more parking and outdoor seating.
A large camphor tree in the sidewalk was removed in order to facilitate construction.
According to City of Glendora Assistant Planner Sean McPherson, the new construction is supposed to blend with the proposed apartment complex across the street and promote a pedestrian-friendly environment. A 256-unit apartment complex has been approved by the city council for the currently vacant property directly across the street from the new Taco Bell on Route 66.
